Two people were killed Saturday when a helicopter connected to MTV reality show “The Challenge” went down in western Argentina, local authorities told the Associated Press.
Gianni Vernier, the security minister for Argentina’s Mendoza province, told state news agency Telam that the helicopter crashed into a reservoir at Potrerillos Dam about 600 miles from Buenos Aires.
The pilot and a technician were both killed, Vernier said, but it was unclear if other people were on board. Authorities were attempting to locate the underwater wreckage.
The cause of the crash has not yet been determined.
In a statement, MTV said that the helicopter was flying to a location for “The Challenge” and that neither of the fatalities was a member of the cast or crew.
The show is a co-production of MTV and Bunim/Murray Productions that pits teams of “Real World” alumni and other MTV reality veterans against each other in physical challenges.
In March, 10 people were killed when two helicopters collided in mid-air over Argentina, including two pilots and eight members of a French reality TV show.
The cast members — all French nationals — were filming a survival series called “Dropped” in the rugged mountains of the La Rioja province of the South American country, reported the Guardian.
